Anne Robinson is to step down from her role as host of The Weakest Link.

She was dubbed the "Queen of Mean" due to her withering asides to contestants on the long-running BBC general knowledge quiz show.

The BBC has said it will not be recommissioning the programme. The Weakest Link would literally be the weakest link without Anne Robinson so perhaps it's best to end the series.

Commenting on her decision to leave after 11 years, she told The Guardian: "It's been superb so it is a hard decision. If there's anything about longevity in television, it's about knowing what to take and what to turn down, and what to stop."

She added: "My fee wasn't cut. I originally said I would do (the programme for) 10 years. I did a year more than I intended to."

The final series will go off air next spring. As a strict quiz mistress, Anne Robinson is renowned for making controversial comments, even if it all felt a little old five years ago.
